What have we become?

My typical morning starts by reading several online papers and journals - mainly for real estate information but I can't seem to sift through my papers without some heinous crime being reported. Yesterday, the AJC ran a video clip of a six legged Doe found in North Georgia – I was stunned – on many levels. What are “we” doing to our environment to cause so many birth defects not only in humans but in animals. The state of this entire world is extremely off balance – in every aspect. A man burst into a man’s home, went in the owner’s daughter’s bedroom, where he was putting his daughter to sleep and shot the owner in the head, a woman, picking up her daughter from work, was murdered and her car stolen. My former Managing Director boarded their family dog this past week – the same place he always used – they came by his home, picked up Macland and my Manager and his family headed to the beach. The kennel left Macland in the van – Macland died. This goes on and on. Someone posted here about the person who put the child’s face in boiling hot water. People what is going on?

Are we so far gone, so politically correct, so numb, so blind or are we just that damn stupid – that this goes on? There were times when certain crimes were NOT committed. It was unheard of to commit a crime against a child or a family member or a friend or a neighbor.

We are the dumbest Nation – look at the educational system, the welfare system, the economic system, our justice system – we have so many rights and privileges yet we are in the worst shape ever. People, be glad I don’t believe in the “living in the last days” rhetoric or else I’d swear I’d build the next damn Ark myself.

I do know that one thing Barack Obama says that resonates – CHANGE! While he was not my choice for presidential candidate – I do enjoy hearing him speak and it strikes a chord with me. Not Caucasians, not African Americans, not Asian Americans, not one specific race/culture but everyone – this entire Nation must change or we really will die and not just a physical death.

I’m not sure what is it going to take for us to wake up and what is more frightening is I’m not sure if we really want to wake up and maybe that is the problem.

Simply put...we've gone too far

I am all for freedom of speech. I am all for the pursuit of happiness. I am all for life and liberty. What I am not for is how far we have taken this. We’ve swung the pendulum so far to the left and the right that there is no balance.

Take a look around – step outside of yourself and let’s evaluate where we live for starters. Everything is out of whack. Our lives, our homes, our jobs, our governments for Christ’s sake, our animals are out of balance.

I am sure that each one of us knows someone who is underemployed or unemployed. I can recall when being unemployed was a tragedy and was a direct result from your own inability to keep a job. Now we are unemployed because we are gay or African American or Latino or fat or some one just didn’t like us. ::insert caveat:: I am in no way implying that these are the only reasons people are unemployed – true some people are lazy, sorry and undereducated and that plays a big role in it as well but there is more to this picture than meets the eye.

How do we get off this vicious cycle? I am not sure. We need a cleansing – we need new rules and we need to stop being so permissive. Now, the word permissive cuts to my very core – I have been a permissive parent for the majority of my daughter’s 19 years and let me assure you…it has only provided me with glimmers of satisfaction. I was permissive because I wanted her to be happy – and happiness has jack shit to do with responsibility, compassion, understanding and commitment.
